The Church has gone to court in many countries to uphold the right to freedom of religion. In Australia, as but one example, legal actions by the Church led to a landmark victory for religious freedom in general.
In the United States, the Church employed the Freedom of Information Act to obtain documents vital to the public interest and to hold government agencies accountable. In certain cases, the Church has used the courts to protect its copyrighted materials, or to safeguard the rights of its members. But in every case, the end result is greater religious freedom for all.
